About
Lauren West is a creative director, designer, illustrator and muralist based in Philadelphia (and Winooski, Vermont (right next to Burlington)). Her work explores humor, nature, cycling, and everyday city life with a focus on simple forms, bright color and dynamic spaces.
I’ve worked with clients in corporate healthcare, higher education, fashion, professional sports, outdoors, restorative justice, museums and public art, consumer products, food and beverage and more. Yes, it doesn’t make sense that someone who laughs at their computer the entire time they’re working on something because it brings them that much joy can also make serious work for clients. It’s true. I can prove it.
As an illustrator, well it's pretty obvious I have little to no professional training, but I sure do work with a lot of fun clients! I illustrate because I loves to bring colorful happiness to all who experience my art. Through humor and vibrant (yet simple) colors there's an instant connection to playfulness and child-like fun.
I started painting walls in 2015 as an apprentice refurbishing faded signs in the city. I’ve had the opportunity to create large-scale murals for Philadelphia Mural Arts, Philadelphia International Airport, Vans and Target. As well as a number of interactive sculptural experiences and illustrated campaigns for museums such as: The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Barnes Foundation, The Academy of Natural Sciences and The Franklin Institute.
Before working as a full-time artist, I worked in the bicycle industry for 12+ years. I still dabble from time-to-time at my boyfriend’s shop in Vermont. Cycling still plays a major part in my everyday life whether riding through the city or in the woods. Some of the rad cycling-related clients I’ve worked with: Dirt Rag Magazine, Bassi Bikes Montréal, Winooski Wheels, Treehouse Cyclery, Keswick Cycle, Firth & Wilson Transport Cycles, ReLoad Bags, and Voler Apparel.
